Florida Gulf Coast downs San Francisco 62-47
ESTERO, Fla. -- Bernard Thompson scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers, and Florida Gulf Coast easily beat San Francisco 62-47 Tuesday night, handing the Dons their first loss of the season in a Gulf Coast Showcase at Estero game.
Nate Hicks added 11 points and had three blocks, Marc-Eddy Norelia scored 10, and the Eagles (5-0) outshot the Dons from the field 37 percent to 25.4 percent.
Mark Tollefson led San Francisco (3-1) with 16 points and seven rebounds and Montray Clemons added 10 points. Tim Derksen grabbed 10 rebounds.
San Francisco led 10-9 at 12:50 on a layup by Clemons before Demetris Motrant's tip shot at 5:14 put Florida Gulf Coast up 16-15. The Eagles scored five unanswered points to lead 26-18 at halftime.
Thompson opened the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers and the Eagles never looked back. They led by as many as 26 points, but the Dons finished on a 13-2 run.
