Hughes' career-high 25 leads Delaware St past Howard 79-76
WASHINGTON -- Freshman Todd Hughes came off the bench to score a career-best 25 points to lead Delaware State over Howard 79-76 on Monday.
Hughes was 9 of 14 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range, in 32 minutes. It was only his second time in double figures after notching 15 on Nov. 17 in a 104-63 win over Division III Baptist Bible.
Amere May scored 17 points for Delaware State (7-9, 1-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) and Kendall Gray recorded his fourth straight double-double with 14 points and 18 rebounds.
James Carlton had 27 points for Howard (8-10, 2-2) and James Miller hit 4 of 5 3-pointers and finished with 24 points. James Daniel added 15 points for the Bison.
Delaware State led 36-34 at halftime after holding the Bison to two points in the final 4:07. Howard led by as many as 10 in the opening frame.
