Valdes sparks Hawaii win over Delaware State 75-60
HONOLULU -- Aaron Valdes scored 19 points, Garrett Nevels added 15 and Hawaii got off to a fast start for a 75-60 win over Delaware State on Tuesday night.
The Rainbow Warriors (7-2) hounded the Hornets (3-4) into 18 turnovers and 2 of 18 shooting from 3-point range.
Hawaii took a quick 10-2 lead as Negus Webster-Chan made a pair of 3-pointers and Valdes scored seven straight points that pushed the lead to 30-14 at the 4:16 mark. The lead reached 35-19 on a Garrett Nevels' 3 before Kendal Gray scored the last two baskets of the half to pull Delaware State within 35-23.
The Rainbows quickly pushed the lead to 25 in the first five minutes to the second half and Delaware State never threatened.
Charles Burley hit all eight of his free throws as Delaware State went 18 of 22 from the line. Kendall Gray had 13 points and 14 rebounds.
