Willis, Howard lead NJIT past Maine, 90-86

Winfield Willis scores 20; Ky Howard adds 17, 7 rebounds and 5 assists; NJIT beats Maine 90-86

NEWARK, N.J. -- Winfield Willis scored 20 points, Ky Howard added 17 and NJIT held off Maine for a 90-86 win on Monday night.

Howard was 5 of 5 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds to go along with five assists.

Odera Nweke scored 16, Tim Coleman added 12 and Damon Lynn had 11 points for NJIT (1-1).

Maine's Till Gloger hit a pair of free throws to make it 83-81 with 1:13 remaining before Howard found Nweke in the post for a layup and the foul 19 seconds later.

After Shaun Lawton hit a 3 with 27 seconds left, pulling Maine within two, Howard made the first of two free throws and NJIT led 87-84. Aaron Calixte missed a layup on the other end, immediately fouled, and Coleman sealed it by making both free throws with 6 seconds left.

Lawton led Maine with 20 points. Ethan Mackey added 18.
