West hits late 3, NW State gets past New Orleans 87-84
NEW ORLEANS -- Jalan West hit a shot from just past half court as time expired in the first half and banked in a 3-pointer at the final buzzer to give Northwestern State an 87-84 come-from-behind victory over New Orleans on Saturday night.
West finished with 36 points to tie his career high and Northwestern State (15-10, 10-4 Southland Conference) scored 53 points in the final period to overcome a 20-point second-half deficit. Zeek Woodley had 25 points and Tra'von Joseph added 15 and 12 boards for the Demons.
Northwestern State is third in the conference standings behind Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin.
New Orleans had a 19-0 run in the middle of the first half to go ahead 48-31 before West hit the long trey to close to 48-34 at the half.
Nate Frye led New Orleans (7-15, 3-10) with 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
