Texas A&M-CC escapes New Orleans 55-53
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Rashawn Thomas scored 16 points, including a three-point play with five seconds left, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi narrowly escaped New Orleans 55-53 on Monday.
It was tied at 50 with 3:20 left. John Jordan hit a jumper to put Texas A&M-CC (14-11, 9-4 Southland) up two. Later, New Orleans' Kevin Hill grabbed a defensive rebound and was fouled, but made just 1 of 2 from the line. Tevin Broyles then made a steal and a layup in transition to put UNO up 53-52 with 33 seconds left.
But next time down, Thomas gathered an errant 3-point attempt and hit a short jumper with five seconds left, was fouled, and converted to provide the final score as New Orleans couldn't get another shot off.
Christavious Gill scored on three consecutive possessions at the end of the first half -- with back-to-back 3-pointers -- to give New Orleans a 27-23 lead at the break.
Gill led New Orleans (7-14, 3-9) with 13.
