McNeese St gallops past New Orleans, 68-61
LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Jamaya Burr and Desharick Guidry combined to score 31 points as McNeese State posted a wire-to-wire, 68-61 win over New Orleans Saturday.
Nate Frye drilled a 3-pointer midway through the first half to pull New Orleans within three, 16-13, but the Cowboys pulled away and held a 32-23 advantage at intermission.
Burr finished with 16 points, knocking down 8 of 10 from the free throw line, to lead the effort. Guidry added 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Keelan Garrett added 13 points and Kevin Hardy added 10. The Cowboys (8-11, 2-6 Southland Conference) shot 45 percent from the field (27 of 60), including 3 of 15 from beyond the arc.
Christavious Gill and Colton Weisbrod scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead New Orleans (6-11, 2-6). Kevin Brown added 11 points and Kevin Hill had 10. Terrance Syon pulled down 13 rebounds.
