San Diego St. holds on to beat Nevada, 65-63
RENO, Nev. -- J.J. O'Brien's three-point play with :51 left in the game lifted San Diego State past Nevada, 65-63, Wednesday night and allowed the Aztecs to keep pace with Wyoming atop the Mountain West Conference standings.
Nevada trailed by seven points with under three minutes to play, but Eric Cooper Jr. drilled a 3 to cut the deficit to 60-56 and another to make it 61-59. Michael Perez got to the basket for a layup to tie the game at 61-61 with 1:17 left.
After O'Brien pushed the Aztecs' lead back to three, AJ West scored on a layup to make it a one-point game with :16 left, but Trey Kell hit the second of two free throws to create the final margin.
O'Brien scored 18 points to lead San Diego State (18-5, 8-2 Mountain West).
Cooper finished with 17 points to lead the Wolf Pack (6-15, 2-7).
