North Texas beats FAU for third straight win, 79-72
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Colin Voss scored a career-high 22 points and hot-shooting North Texas beat Florida Atlantic 79-72 on Thursday night.
Jeremy Combs added 16 points and DeAndre Harris 14 for the Mean Green (12-13, 6-7 Conference USA), who shot 63.3 percent. The victory was the third in a row for North Texas, which clinched a spot in the conference tournament with the win.
Marquan Botley scored 21 points to lead Owls (8-16, 1-12), who lost their eighth straight game. Justin Raffington and Jackson Trapp added 10 points each.
North Texas finished the first half with an 11-2 run to take a 38-31 lead. The Mean Green scored 10 unanswered points to take their biggest lead of 15 points with 9:24 remaining. FAU chipped away and got the deficit down to four points, 76-72, with 22 seconds remaining but North Texas hit 3 of 4 free throws and FAU missed two 3-point attempts.
