KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Martez Harrison scored 20 points while dishing out six assists to lead Missouri-Kansas City to a 70-45 win over Texas-Pan American on Thursday night.
Broderick Newbill contributed 11 points and Darius Austin added 10 as UMKC (10-14, 5-2 Western Athletic) shot 48.3 percent on 58 attempts from the field while holding UTPA (8-15, 2-5) to just 15 of 46. The win kept Kansas City within a game of first place, the highest it's been in WAC standings this far into conference play since the 2005-06 season.
The Kangaroos broke away midway through the first half with a 13-2 run that included a 3-pointer from Collin Jennings and took a 34-19 advantage into the break. The margin never tightened below double figures the rest of the way.
