Moore hits game-winner, edges The Citadel past Samford 66-65
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Ashton Moore's buzzer-beating jumper bounced off the rim twice before dropping in to edge The Citadel past Samford 66-65 on Thursday night.
Moore hit a 3-pointer with 33 seconds left to tie the score at 64-all, but Samford's Michael Bradley made the front end of a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining. Jake Wright grabbed the defensive rebound and The Citadel called a timeout. Moore drove down the court, shot from just inside the arc, and the ball dropped through the net as time expired.
Moore finished with 17 points and six assists. Wright had 20 points on six 3-pointers for The Citadel (9-15, 4-9 Southern).
The final six minutes saw no more than a three-point difference, with six lead changes and four ties. The Citadel shot 50 percent overall and 10 of 15 from distance.
Darius Jones-Gibson scored 18 points for Samford (12-15, 5-9).
