CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Mike Brown scored a career-high 27 points as Western Carolina sealed an 82-72 victory over cold-shooting UNC Greensboro on Saturday.
Torrion Brummitt and Rhett Harrelson each added 15 points for the Catamounts, and Devin Peterson chipped in 12.
Western Carolina (8-9, 3-2 Southern) trailed in the first half until it went ahead on a 10-4 run with 11:37 left, and led 38-27 at the break.
The lead stretched to as many as 19 points in the second half, but the Spartans closed to 75-66 on an 8-0 run with 2:31 left. Back-to-back 3's brought the difference to seven with 37 seconds to go, the closest UNC Greensboro would get in the second half.
RJ White scored 22 points, Kayel Locke had 19 and Diante Baldwin finished with 14 for the Spartans (5-13, 1-4), who shot 35.6 percent from the floor and 29.2 percent from 3-point range.
