Brown strikes late, leads Toledo past Akron 68-66
AKRON, Ohio -- Julius Brown had 21 points, five boards and a game-winning jumper with two seconds left to lift Toledo over Akron 68-66 on Wednesday night.
After Brown and Reggie McAdams traded 3s with 3:22 left to knot the score at 66, neither team scored until Brown's make. Kwam Cheatham Jr.'s missed a last second attempt.
Nathan Boothe scored 16 points and J.D. Weatherspoon added 11 points and seven rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting for the Rockets (17-9, 9-4), who moved into a first place tie in the Mid-American West.
Antino Jackson scored 14 and Deji Ibitayo added 11 for the Zips (17-9, 8-5), who shot just 39.3 percent from the field, including 3 of 14 from 3-pointer range.
Justin Drummond hit a pair of free throws at the 13:33 mark in the second half to push Toledo up six, the largest lead of the half.
