BYU evens WCC mark, beats Portland 97-88

PROVO, Utah -- Tyler Haws, Kyle Collinsworth and Anson Winder combined to score 67 points as BYU knocked off Portland 97-88 in a West Coast Conference game Monday night.

The Cougars (11-4) rebounded from a loss to Gonzaga in the WCC opener Saturday, evening their conference record at 1-1.

Haws finished with 24 points on 8 of 20 shooting from the field and 7 of 8 from the line. Winder had 22 points, connecting on 10 of 14 from the field, and Collinsworth scored 21, shooting 9 of 13 from the free throw line, and grabbed eight boards.

BYU shot 50.8 percent from the field on 33-of-65 shooting and was 24 of 31 from the line.

Portland (10-4, 1-1) opened WCC play with a 61-58 win at San Diego on Alec Wintering's 3-pointer with 0.3 seconds left.

Wintering scored 30 points to lead the Pilots, leading five players in double figure scoring.
