NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- A.J. English scored 30 points -- his sixth straight game scoring 25 points or better -- and grabbed 14 rebounds to pace Iona's 77-64 defeat of Rider Wednesday night, breaking a two-game skid.
Iona (5-3, 1-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) trailed for more than five minutes to start. The Gaels then zoomed past the Broncs on a 9-0 run, including a 3-pointer by Isaiah Williams and two baskets by English, and never trailed again. The Gaels drained 11 3-pointers, seven in the first half, to dance out of reach of Rider (4-6, 1-1), which shot 48 percent in the first half yet trailed by 12 at the break.
Schadrac Casimir scored 19 for Iona, Williams 15 -- they and English each made three 3-pointers.
Jimmie Taylor scored 16 and Teddy Okereafor 15 for Rider.
Iona senior starter David Laury did not play because of an apparent rules violation.
