Lewis lifts Canisius past St. Peter's 60-57
JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Zach Lewis nailed a 3-pointer with five seconds left and finished with 12 points and Canisius outlasted Saint Peter's 60-57 Wednesday night.
The Golden Griffins (3-3, 1-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) trailed by as much as 10, but chipped away at the deficit as Phil Valenti sank two 3-pointers and Jamal Reynolds made a layup to grab a 54-52 lead. Dominique Marvin answered right back with a jumper for St. Peter's (2-6, 0-2), but Kevin Bleeker followed with a trey.
Travis Hester tied it back up with a 3-pointer with 38 seconds left, and Lewis drained the shot clock before sinking the game-winner. Trevis Wyche couldn't connect on a 3 in the final seconds.
Valenti led Canisius with 14 points and Josiah Heath added 10 with seven rebounds. Lewis also had three steals.
Elisha Boone scored 11 points, Quadir Welton contributed 10 and Marvin chipped in 10 with eight boards.
