Eastern Washington ends drought at Montana
MISSOULA, Mont. -- Drew Brandon matched his career high with 27 points and Eastern Washington ended an 11-year, 12-game losing streak at Montana on Thursday, 75-69 despite playing without Tyler Harvey, the nation's leading scorer.
Even without Harvey, who averages 23.4 points but didn't make the trip after being injured last Saturday, the Eagles (17-5, 8-1 Big Sky) shot 51 percent, including 11 of 24 on 3-pointers.
Felix Von Hofe, starting for Harvey, had 12 points as did forward Venky Jois, who had nine rebounds and matched his career high with seven assists. EWU's last win in Missoula was Feb. 7, 2004.
Mario Dunn matched his career high for Montana (11-10, 7-3), which lost its second straight. Brandon Gfeller had 14 points, Michael Weisner 12 and Martin Breunig 11 with 12 rebounds.
The Grizzlies made 13 of 24 behind the arc but shot just 45.8 percent overall.
Gfeller made consecutive 3s to tie the game at 49 and 52 but EWU scored the next seven.
