Garrity, Sacramento St. top Northern Arizona 78-73
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Dylan Garrity scored 26 points to lead five Sacramento State players in double figures and the Hornets beat Northern Arizona 78-73 in a Big Sky Conference opener Thursday night.
Garrity was 5 of 7 from 3-point range and 11 of 12 from the free-throw line. Eric Stuteville added 16 points, including 12 in the first half which ended with the Sacramento State (7-5, 1-0) ahead 31-27. Cody Demps finished with 13, Zach Mills 12 and Mikh McKinney 11. For the game, the Hornets made 9 of 13 3-pointers and shot 51 percent overall.
Quinton Upshur led the Lumberjacks (5-9, 0-1) with 18 points. Jordyn Martin added 14 and Ako Kaluna and Aaseem Dixon 11 each. Northern Arizona shot 42.9 percent.
A dunk by Upshur had the Lumberjacks within two, 70-68, with 2:24 left. McKinney then sank a 3-pointer and Garrity made five straight free throws to fend off NAU.
