Arkansas-Pine Bluff defeats Morehouse 67-54
ATLANTA -- Tevin Hammond led three players in double figures as Arkansas-Pine Bluff raced away from Morehouse 67-54 in the finale of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tipoff Tournament on Monday night.
The Golden Lions (2-0) opened the second half with a pair of 3-pointers from Daniel Broughton, a dunk by DeAndre McIntyre and a 3-pointer from Hammond as they built a 13-point lead in about eight minutes that was never challenged.
Davon Haynes added 12 points and 13 rebounds for Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Morehouse opened the second half with a Tyrone Brown dunk and layup and two 3-pointers by Javarius Gay to get within 36-34 early in the period but could not keep the pace. Gay and Robert Askew led Morehouse (1-2) with 12 points each, and Brown added 11. The Maroon Tigers shot 38.9 percent from the field.
