Western Carolina defeats The Citadel 78-60
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Tom Tankelewicz came off the bench to score 15 points for Western Carolina as the Catamounts defeated The Citadel 78-60 on Saturday night.
Tankelewicz ended on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and had three 3-pointers.
Senior guard Trey Sumler became the fifth all-time Western Carolina player to surpass 1,800 career points, as both he and Justin Browning scored 10 points.
The Catamounts (12-10, 5-2 Southern) led by 14 at the break and opened up the second half with a 3-pointer by Sumler. Despite going the next 4:24 without a basket, Western Carolina still led by 11 with 15 minutes to go.
Matt Van Scyoc, who has scored in double-figures in the last eight games, scored a career-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds for The Citadel (4-18, 0-7).
The Bulldogs, who are on a 10-game losing streak, were held to 15-for-46 shooting from the floor.
