GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Kayel Locke scored 18 points and UNC Greensboro limited Furman to two field goals in the final six-plus minutes en route to a 90-82 victory Monday night.
Two free throws by Kendrec Ferrara pulled Furman (6-9, 0-2 Southern Conference) within 80-78 with 2:29 to play but the Spartans scored six straight points over the next 1:45 to open up an eight-point lead with 44 seconds remaining. Nicholas Paulos and Kyle Cain each made a pair of free throws in the final 18 seconds to seal the victory.
UNC Greensboro (8-9, 1-1) opened up an 11-point lead with 3:53 left in the first half but the Paladins scored 11 of the final 15 points and went into the break trailing 38-34.
Tevon Sadler scored 17, Paulos 14 and Cain 12 for the Spartans, who made 34 of 59 (57.6 percent) field goals.
Ferrara and Stephen Croone each scored 21 for Furman.
