Central Michigan Chippewas @ Toledo Rockets
Toledo gets 1st MAC win 86-71 over Cent. Michigan
TOLEDO, Ohio -- Julius Brown had 15 points and 12 assists while J.D. Weatherspoon added 14 points and 11 rebounds in Toledo's 86-71 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday night.
Both teams were looking for their first win in the Mid-American Conference and Toledo's 57.1 percent (28 of 49) overall shooting proved too much for CMU.
Toledo (13-2, 1-1) led 35-27 at halftime and opened the second on a 7-2 run. From there, the Rockets cruised until Chris Fowler's layup capped a 7-0 run for CMU which brought the Chippewas within 68-62.
Toledo called timeout shortly afterward and responded with its own seven-point run to put the game comfortably out of reach.
Rian Pearson scored 14 points, Nathan Boothe had 13, Jordan Lauf added 12 and Justin Drummond 11.
Fowler led the Chippewas (7-7, 0-2) with 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Braylon Rayson had 15 points and John Simons had 10.
