2nd-half rally lifts UMBC over New Hampshire 68-57
CATONSVILLE, Md. -- Rodney Elliott scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half as UM-Baltimore County came from behind to defeat New Hampshire 68-57 on Wednesday night.
The Retrievers (8-15, 4-6 America East) had trailed 33-24 as the Wildcats tried to bolt away after halftime, but UMBC chewed into the lead several times and finally strung together a 10-2 run started by an Elliott steal and consecutive buckets from Elliott, Malik Garner and Chase Plummer. The run surged UMBC from three down into a 49-44 lead with 10:20 to play. The Retrievers went on another 9-0 spurt to led 58-47 and force a second New Hampshire time out.
The Wildcats (5-17, 3-6) came as close as 62-57 but didn't score in the final 2 minutes.
Jacoby Armstrong led New Hampshire with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Quentin Jones scored 16 for the Retrievers and Brett Roseboro added 10 points.
