Chaz Williams, UMass too much for La Salle 79-67
AMHERST, Mass. -- Chaz Williams had 17 points and eight assists on Wednesday night to help Massachusetts end a two-game skid with a 79-67 victory against La Salle.
The Minutemen (18-4, 5-3 Atlantic 10) went on a 10-0 run late in the first on their way to a 16-point halftime lead, and they stayed comfortably ahead the rest of the way.
Trey Davis and Cady Lalanne each scored 13 while Derrick Gordon had 12 points and six assists. Sampson Carter chipped in 11 points and Raphiael Putney had 11 rebounds.
Jerrell Wright had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead La Salle (12-10, 4-4). Tyreek Duren added 13 points and Khalid Lewis had 10 for the Explorers who scored the final six points of the game to close to their smallest second-half deficit of 12 points.
The victory allowed UMass to remain unbeaten in the Mullins Center this season with a 9-0 record.
