SAINT THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands -- Tyrone Garland scored 14 of his game-high 22 points in the second half as La Salle pulled away for a 78-59 win over Morgan State in the Paradise Jam Friday night.
After Anthony Hubbard hit a pair of free throws to pull Morgan State within six, 52-46, with 7:07 to play, La Salle used a 15-2 run to blow the game open. Jerrell Wright scored eight of his 12 points during that stretch and Morgan State (0-5) never drew closer than 15 again.
The Bears led 23-17 with 4:45 left in the first half, but La Salle (3-2) scored 15 of the next 17 points to take a 32-25 lead into the break.
Tyreek Duren finished with 16 points and Sam Mills added 12 for Explorers.
Ian Chiles had 14 points, on 7-of-11 shooting, and five blocks for Morgan State.
La Salle will play Providence in the second round Sunday.
