New Mexico squeezes past Colorado State 68-66
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Kendall Williams scored 23 points and New Mexico survived several lead changes late in the second half in beating Colorado State 68-66 on Saturday.
Colorado fended off New Mexico (15-4, 6-1 Mountain West) through 15 minutes of the second half until a pair of 3's boosted the Lobos to a 60-56 lead with 4:38 left. The Rams charged back leading 63-60, but Williams and Hugh Greenwood landed two 3-pointers to put the Lobos in front 66-64.
Williams made it interesting in the final seconds by missing 2 of 4 free throws for the Lobos, allowing Colorado's Bejarano to put up a game-tying jumper that missed at the buzzer.
Joe De Ciman put Colorado State (12-8, 3-4) ahead 27-24 at the break with a steal off Williams, leading to a dunk at the other end.
Cameron Bairstow added 19 points for New Mexico, while Bejarano led Ram scorers with 21 points.
