New Mexico bounces back, beats Fresno State 89-78
FRESNO, Calif. -- Cameron Bairstow scored 22 points and New Mexico bounced back from a rare home-court loss to UNLV by knocking off Fresno State, 89-78 on the road Saturday night.
Fresno State, which has not beaten New Mexico since 1999, led by four points with under three minutes to play in the first half, but Bairstow converted a pair of free throws and Cullen Neal drilled a three-pointer to give the Lobos the lead.
Bairstow scored six points to fuel an 11-4 run by the defending Mountain West champs midway through the second half that broke the game open. He finished hitting 14 of 19 from the free throw line. Neal added 17 points for New Mexico (13-4, 4-1 Mountain West), which shot 53 percent from the field (26 of 49).
Fresno State (8-11, 1-5) got 16 points from Tyler Johnson and 15 each from Cezar Guerrero and Marvelle Harris.
