Pollard lifts Northeastern past Hofstra 70-57
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Demetrius Pollard scored 25 points and Scott Eatherton added 18 with seven rebounds as Northeastern defeated Hofstra 70-57 Saturday.
The Huskies (7-14, 4-3 Colonial Athletic Association) shot 51.9 percent from the field and hit 9 of 17 3-pointers. Pollard was 9 of 14, 6 of 8 beyond the arc and dished out six assists. David Walker chipped in 10 points for Northwestern.
Hofstra (7-13, 3-2) was led by Dion Nesmith with 18 points and Zeke Upshaw had 12.
The Pride jumped out to an early 12-2 lead as Stephen Nwaukoni had a three-point play and Upshaw hit a 3-pointer. Northeastern closed the first half on a 10-4 run capped by a Pollard three-point play to pull within three at the break.
Pollard hit a layup in the second half to put Northeastern on top for good, and they pushed their lead to 65-55 after a Walker 3-pointer with 2:12 remaining.
