Balanced Northwestern St puts away Lamar 87-67
BEAUMONT, Texas -- DeQuan Hicks finished with 10 points, 11 assists and six rebounds to lead a balanced Northwestern State attack in an 87-67 win over Lamar Saturday night.
The Demons (12-12, 8-5 Southland Conference) shot 52.9 percent from the field and had six players in double figures. Zikiteran Woodley and Brison White each had 15 points, Gary Stewart added 13 and Jalan West had 10 with seven assists.
Lamar (3-22, 2-11) was held to 24-of-63 shooting (38.1 percent) and went just 1 of 7 beyond the arc. Rhon Mitchell paced the Cardinals with 26 points and Donovan Ross had 18. Nimrod Hilliard dished out seven assists.
Northwestern State was nursing a one-point lead early in the second half, but surged ahead with a 25-9 run. Stewart sparked the surge with a trio of 3-pointers to push the score to 67-49 at the midway mark, giving the Demons a double-digit lead for good.
