Nicholls gets by Southeastern Louisiana 64-61
THIBODAUX, La. -- Dantrell Thomas, who had 21 points, made two free throws with five seconds remaining to secure a 64-61 victory for Nicholls over Southeastern Louisiana in Southland Conference play Saturday.
The game was tied at 59 with 39 seconds remaining when T.J. Carpenter was fouled. He made one free throw. Thomas then stole the ball from Southeastern Louisiana's Devonte Upson, fed Jeremy Smith who made a layup for a 62-59 lead with 17 seconds remaining.
Nicholls (5-6, 2-0) led 20-10 at the 7:42 mark following a Sam McBeath jump shot. The Colonels held a 28-24 advantage at the half. Southeastern Louisiana (5-8, 0-2) took the lead 49-48 on a Dre Evans jumper at the 6:49 mark of the second period. There were five lead changes in the final six minutes.
Carpenter had 13 points and Jeremy Smith added 12 for the Colonels.
Upson led the Lions with 16 points.
