Stephen F. Austin surges past Towson 79-69
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Thomas Walkup scored 20 points and Desmond Haymon added 18 to help Stephen F. Austin prevail over Towson 79-69 Friday night in an E-Tech Lumberjack Classic matchup.
The Lumberjacks (7-2) jumped out to a 20-9 lead as Walkup had 11 points to spark an early run.
Towson (6-3) stormed back in the second half to take a 59-51 lead, but Stephen F. Austin answered with a 19-3 surge fueled by nine points from Haymon, including a 3-pointer to tie the game at 60. Haymon had 14 of his 18 points in the final 7:16.
Nikola Gajic hit four 3-pointers to finish with 18 points, while Jacob Parker had 14. Trey Pinkney also chipped in a game-high eight assists for the Lumberjacks.
The Tigers shot 55 percent from the field to Stephen F. Austin's 41.8 percentage, but committed 20 turnovers. Jerrelle Benimon and Rafriel Guthrie each contributed 16 points.
