Tennessee Tech outlasts Tennessee State 57-53
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Josiah Moore scored 13 points and Dwan Caldwell added 10 as Tennessee Tech opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a 57-53 win over Tennessee State Thursday night.
Trailing 46-42 with 8:18 remaining, the Golden Eagles (8-8, 1-0 OVC) pulled ahead with a 10-0 run. Ty Allen and Jordan Johnson each hit 3-pointers, Moore had a dunk in between, and Caldwell capped the surge with a layup at the 4:32 mark.
Tennessee State (1-14, 0-2) pulled within two after an M.J. Rhett dunk with 12 seconds remaining, but Allen drilled two free throws to give Tennessee Tech the final margin.
Tennessee Tech shot 44.7 percent from the field and hit eight 3-pointers. Javon McKay scored eight points and Jeremiah Samarrippas had seven with six assists for the Golden Eagles.
The Tigers were just 3 of 18 from the 3-point line. Kennedy Eubanks scored 15 points and Patrick Miller contributed 13.
