LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Mike Caffey had a career-high 27 points to lead Long Beach State to 71-59 win over Hawaii Pacific Saturday.
Caffey, a junior, also had 9 rebounds. He was 10 of 22 shooting from the floor. Senior Dan Jennings had a career-high 17 rebounds and contributed 10 points for a double-double.
Justin Long led Hawaii Pacific with 20 points. Darry Jones Jr. added 14 points.
Long's 3-point jumper put Hawaii Pacific in front to start the game. The Sea Warriors never led again as Long Beach State took a 39-31 lead into the half.
A 3-point jumper by McKay LaSalle pushed to lead to 46-36 with 16:29 remaining in the game. The Sea Warriors kept battling and cut the lead to 5, when Jones hit a jumper in the paint with 1:48 remaining. Long Beach State scored the final five points to thwart Hawaii Pacific's come-back bid.
