Williams leads Troy past South Alabama 79-74
TROY, Ala. -- Hunter Williams hit a career-high seven 3-pointers and scored a career-best 26 points for the second time this season as Troy defeated in-state rival South Alabama 79-74 on Thursday night.
Williams scored 21 of his points after the break. His 3-pointer to open the second half gave Troy a 33-31 lead and the Trojans led the rest of the way. Williams' seventh trey gave Troy a 71-60 lead with 3:41 remaining. He scored 26 points against LaGrange in November.
Kevin Thomas scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting for Troy (8-14, 3-7 Sun Belt), which snapped a five-game losing skid. Jeff Mullahey scored 13 points, and Antoine Myers had five assists for the Trojans.
Augustine Rubit made 10 field goals on his way to 25 points to lead South Alabama (7-16, 1-9). Barrington Stevens III scored 13 points and had six assists for the Jaguars.
