IPFW edges Texas-Pan American 66-60
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Luis Jacobo scored 24 points and Joe Reed added 12 more to give Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne a 66-60 win over late-rallying Texas-Pan American on Saturday.
Jacobo was 7 of 13 from the field, with two 3-pointers and 8 of 10 at the charity stripe, as IPFW (2-2) jumped to an early lead and took a 32-25 advantage into the break.
But the Broncs (2-3), led by Javorn Farrell with 22 points and six rebounds, battled back in the second half, erasing a 9-point deficit and tying the game four times. UTPA took its only lead with 9:10 remaining on a layup by Shaquille Hines, who drew the foul and sank the follow up free throw to make it 45-44.
The Mastodons recovered the lead on their next possession on a Steve Forbes layup.
Last year, IPFW edged past UTPA 97-94 in triple overtime.
