Boston U clinches crown; beats Holy Cross 68-64
WORCESTER, Mass. -- D.J. Irving scored 15 points, including the game-clinching free throws with 7 seconds left, as Boston University secured the Patriot League crown by beating Holy Cross 68-64 on Saturday.
Boston, in its first year in the league, will be a No. 1 seed for the first time since 2004.
Dom Morris added 14 for The Terriers (22-9, 15-3), which shot 52 percent (26 of 50), including 8 of 19 3-pointers. Irving had four makes from beyond the mark and John Papale added three more.
Dave Dudzinski paced Holy Cross (18-12, 12-6) with 20 points.
Boston trailed by six points early in the second half, but took the lead for good, 46-43, on a Travis Robinson 3-pointer with 13:31 left.
Holy Cross got within two-points twice in the final 2:14 -- the last on a Malachi Alexander 3-pointer -- but did not score in the final 1:30.
