Lafayette beats Penn 79-76 for first win
PHILADELPHIA -- Dan Trist scored 22 points on 10 of 14 shooting to help Lafayette withstand a second-half rally and beat Penn 83-77 Saturday night.
Joey Ptasinski added 18 points for the Leopards (3-1), connecting on 5 of 8 3-point attempts. Seth Hinrichs chipped in with 10 and led with seven rebounds. The team hit 55.3 percent from the field overall, 73.3 percent from the line and 56.3 from 3-point territory.
The Leopards jumped in front early and led by 15 points, 45-30, at the break.
But the Quakers rallied in the second half on a 12-2 run punctuated by a Mike Auger dunk to close the gap to two, 62-60, with 9:28 left to play. Then it was Lafayette's turn to surge with a 9-1 run to make it 71-61 with 2:32 left.
Auger led the Quakers (0-3) with 18 points. Tony Hicks added 14 points and 13 assists.
