Tulane holds off UAB for 86-80 win
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Trevante Dye scored 21 points, Louis Dabney 20 and Tulane made 10 of 14 free throws in the final 1:27 to hold off UAB for an 86-80 victory on Saturday night.
Tulane (14-12, 6-5 Conference USA) opened the second half with an 11-3 run, opening up a 16-point lead with just more than 13 minutes to play. UAB made just one field goal in the first seven minutes of the second half while shooting 36.8 percent for the game, including 4 of 18 from 3-point range.
A layup by Dye with 11:06 remaining gave the Green Wave an 18-point lead, but the Blazers (15-10, 4-7) rattled off nine of the next 10 points to pull within 62-52 with about 7 1/2 minutes to go.
Denzell Watts made a layup with 4 seconds left to pull UAB within four but Max Keenan hit two free throws to seal the win.
