Tulsa continues dominance of Rice with 66-56 win
HOUSTON -- Rashad Smith scored 18 points as Tulsa continued its dominance of Rice with a 66-56 win on Saturday, its 15th straight in the series.
James Woodard added 15 points and Brandon Swannegan had 10 for the Golden Hurricane (11-12, 6-3 Conference USA), who have beaten Rice by an average of 13.1 points per contest during the streak.
Tulsa took its first lead of the game late in the first half, ending the half with seven straight points to take a 27-23 lead into the break. Rice (7-16, 2-8) cut its deficit to 57-53 with 1:11 to play but Tulsa made two layups and five free throws in the final minute to seal the win.
Max Guercy scored 17 points and Austin Ramljak had 11 for Rice, which shot just 36.7 percent from the field.
