Stark, Tulane handle Alabama State 84-66
NEW ORLEANS -- Jonathan Stark scored 21 points and Louis Dabney added 19 as Tulane moved past Alabama State 84-66 in a Westin Holiday Classic matchup Saturday.
The Green Wave (6-6) trailed by one at the 8:28 mark in the first half, but propelled ahead with a quick 10-0 run sparked by a Jay Hook 3-pointer and a Dabney three-point play. Cameron Reynolds and Stark each drained 3-pointers late in the half to give Tulane a 43-27 advantage at the break.
Alabama State (4-3) crawled back in the second half to cut the deficit to nine with a Jamel Waters three-point play, but Tulane countered with a 14-3 surge.
Tulane shot 54.7 percent from the field and outrebounded the Hornets 36-24. Kevin Thomas scored 12 points and Hook had 11. Trevante Drye finished with 14 rebounds for the Green Wave.
Waters paced Alabama State with 17 points and DeMarcus Robinson added 14.
