FGCU takes down Stetson 68-55
DELAND, Fla. -- Eric McKnight and Bernard Thompson each scored 14 points to lead a balanced Florida Gulf Coast offense in a 68-55 win at Stetson on Sunday.
Florida Gulf Coast (9-7, 3-0 Atlantic Sun Conference) used a 14-2 run midway through the first half to open a 21-13 lead after trailing early, and held off Stetson (3-12, 1-2) in the second half.
The Hatters closed to within 50-47 with 5:06 remaining, but Chase Fieler responded with a 3-pointer for the Eagles. Thompson then hit three big baskets for Florida Gulf Coast, scoring seven of the next eight points for the Eagles to keep Stetson from cutting into the deficit.
Filip Cvjeticanin scored 11 points for the Eagles while Fieler added 10. Brett Comer, who entered the game as FGCU's leading scorer, did not score but had eight assists for the Eagles.
Willie Green led the Hatters with 24 points.
