LIU Brooklyn edges CCSU 62-61
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Gerrell Martin scored 13 points, including the game-winning layup with 39 seconds to go, to lift LIU Brooklyn past Central Connecticut State 62-61 on Saturday for its first Northeast Conference win of the season.
In a game that included six lead changes and margins that never exceeded eight points, LIU Brooklyn (6-11, 1-3) tied the game at 60 with 1:49 to go on a Martin layup, then caught a break when CCSU (4-13, 0-4) hit just one of its next three shots from the foul line. The missed shots set up Martin's inside drive for the razor-thin win.
Jason Brickman contributed 14 points for the Blackbirds, who hit just 25 of 70 from the field but had eight fewer turnovers in the win.
Malcolm McMillan led the Blue Devils with 9-of-9 shooting, including four from long range, for 23 points. Faronte Drakeford added 10 points.
