CCSU holds off rally, beats New Hampshire 65-56
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Matt Hunter scored 13 points and Faronte Drakeford added 12 as Central Connecticut State held off New Hampshire 65-56 Wednesday night.
The Blue Devils (2-5) held a slim one-point lead early in the second half and surged away as Hunter contributed eight points during a 16-2 run. Hunter started the run with a layup and capped it off with a dunk to put CCSU up 45-30, their largest lead with 14:01 remaining.
New Hampshire (2-5) stormed back to cut the deficit to one on a Jacoby Armstrong layup with 1:33 left. CCSU responded with eight late free throws and a Khalen Cumberlander dunk to cut the rally short.
Four Blue Devil starters finished in double figures as Cumberlander had 10 points and Brandon Peel had 11 with nine rebounds.
Scott Morris led the Wildcats with 11 points and Armstrong had 10 with 10 boards.
