HOUSTON -- Ricky Tarrant scored 30 points and Josh Davis had 23 points and 16 rebounds as Tulane defeated Rice 89-64 Saturday night.
Tarrant was 6 for 8 on 3-point attempts, 9 for 13 overall and 6 for 7 at the free-throw line for the Green Wave (18-9, 6-6 Conference USA), who have won four of their past five games.
Rice (5-21, 1-21), which has lost six straight, was led by Max Guercy and Tamir Jackson with 19 points apiece.
Tulane never trailed, scoring 12 straight points in the early going to take a 20-5 lead. The Owls got within 11 by halftime and made it a seven-point game when Julian DeBose hit a 3-pointer with 14:31 remaining. But Tarrant made three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt, then came back with a made 3-pointer on the next possession to make it 52-39 and the lead stayed in double digits the rest of the way.
