CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Eric Ferguson scored 18 points and Georgia Southern shot 54.9 percent from the field (28 of 51) to beat Western Carolina 72-66 on Saturday afternoon.
Cameron Baskerville had 14 points, Cleon Roberts 13, Brian Holmes 11 and C.J. Reed handed out 11 assists for the Eagles (9-12, 3-5 Southern Conference), who shot 14 of 24 from the field in the second half and made 8 of 18 from beyond the arc for the game.
Tom Tankelewicz had 20 points, Brandon Boggs scored 14 with nine rebounds and Tawaski King had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Catamounts (8-13, 5-4). Western Carolina was 25 of 54 from the field but only 5 of 17 on 3-pointers.
Georgia Southern never led in the first half but trailed only 37-36 at the break. The Eagles took the lead for good at 52-50 on Marvin Baynham's free throws with 8:07 left.
