AKRON, Ohio -- Alex Abreu scored 13 points, including three key free throws in the closing seconds, as Akron won its 11th straight game, beating Buffalo 68-64 in Mid-American Conference action Saturday night.
Akron (15-4, 6-0) has won its first six MAC games for only the third time. The Zips entered Saturday with the third longest active winning streak in the country, and the program's longest since 1972-73.
Buffalo went over 10 minutes without a field goal in the second half, and Akron held a 24-6 advantage during that time for a 61-57 lead.
Abreu hit three free throws and Brian Walsh two more in the waning seconds to clinch the win.
Jarryn Skeete had 19 points for the Bulls (7-13, 2-4).
Skeete's layup with 16:29 left until halftime sparked a 14-2 Buffalo run for a 22-8 lead. The Bulls led 32-12 at one point, but Akron cut it to 37-31 by halftime.
