RADFORD, Va. -- Blake Smith scored 15 points, including five straight to break a second-half tie, to lead Radford to a 59-54 victory over High Point on Wednesday night in a Big South Conference game.
The Highlanders (7-9, 1-1), who had lost six of their previous seven games, were tied 45-45 with 4:16 left. But Smith hit two free throws and then a 3-pointer to trigger an 8-0 run. Radford outscored High Point 14-9 down the stretch.
Smith got double-figure help from Javonte Green, who scored 14 points, and R.J. Price, whose 13 points included three treys. Ya Ya Anderson hit another pair of 3-pointers to help give Radford the 3-point edge. The Highlanders were 6 of 16 from long range, High Point just 1 for 12.
John Brown sizzled for the Panthers (6-8, 1-1), scoring 22 points on 11 of 20 shooting from the floor. Allan Chaney added 13 points.
