EDINBURG, Texas -- Brandon Provost scored 19 points to lead Texas-Pan American to an 80-72 win over Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday night.
Provost reached 1,000 points on a 3-pointer that gave the Broncos a 53-51 lead at 12:10 in the second half.
Aaron Urbanus and Jesus Delgado scored 16 apiece. Justin Leathers had seven rebounds.
Nebraska-Omaha led 43-35 at halftime. The Mavericks (3-11) shot 49 percent from the field, while the Broncos shot 48 percent. But the Broncos (6-8) won at the free-throw line, making 19 of 32. The Mavericks were 10 of 13. The Broncos beat the Mavericks in rebounds, 35-31.
At the 3-minute mark, Lauri Toivonen tied the game at 70. The Broncos took a 71-70 lead on a free throw by Leathers. The Broncos would keep the lead.
Justin Simmons scored 17 points. John Karhoff added 14 points, and Alex Welhouse had 12 points, seven rebounds. CJ Carter had 11 points.
