BALTIMORE -- Billy Baron scored 19 points and had seven assists to lead Canisius to an 83-65 win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Thursday night, snapping the Golden Griffins' 10-game road losing streak.
Canisius (4-1) held the Retrievers scoreless for more than seven minutes spanning both halves to open up a 19-point lead.
Harold Washington added 15 points, Jordan Heath 12 and Josiah Heath 10 for the Golden Griffins, who had not won away from home since beating South Dakota in overtime on Dec. 18, 2011.
Trailing 19-16 at the 9:10 mark, Canisius went on an 11-0 run, with Reggie Groves scoring five points and Baron four. After the Retrievers (1-5) trimmed the deficit to three, Canisius held them scoreless for the final 4:36 of the half to lead 36-24 at the break.
UMBC didn't score in the second half until the 17:08 mark.
Ryan Cook scored 16 points to lead the Retrievers.
