GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Maurice Kemp scored 19 points, and East Carolina held Washington & Lee to 33.9 percent (19 of 56) shooting in a 72-50 season-opening victory in both teams' season opener on Saturday.
Kemp shot 7 of 14 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line. He also had 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.
Marshall Guilmette, a 6-foot-10 freshman, scored 13 points for the Pirates, and Akeem Richmond added 10.
The Generals, a Division III team coming off a 13-14 campaign, did not help their cause with ball security, committing 16 turnovers, and they shot 18.8 percent (3 of 16) from 3-point range.
Kevin Gill led the Generals with 12 points, and J.D. Ey scored 10 to go along with 10 rebounds.
